PANAMA CITY, Fla. -- About 58 FEMA trailers are currently not being lived in and one local leader is hoping to change that.

FEMA representatives say they overestimated the number of trailers they would need for Hurricane Michael survivors.

They say everyone who qualified for direct housing has been given a trailer or mobile home.

Panama City Mayor Greg Brudnicki, now says he's working with FEMA to get some of those spots filled with ones who may not have initially qualified.

"Okay listen. I've got people who are house surfing, kids that are couch surfing, and I've got people that are, ya know, sleeping in other people's homes that need these trailers. Let's get them to fill in the ones that the other people haven't moved into," said Brudnicki.
