PANAMA CITY, Fla - Bay County officials say FEMA trailers are on their way. Currently, more than 800 Bay County families are staying in transitional sheltering assistance and more than 200 are still staying in the overnight shelter.

Panama City Mayor Greg Brudnicki, explained why the trailers are so important. "The whole county we're all looking to have a certain amount of trailers brought into town. Anything that will get people safe, a roof over their head. And provide them a certain amount of comfort."
Philip "Griff" Griffitts, Bay County Dist. 5 commissioner said he just received notice that trailers are ready to come to Bay County. "There's a staging site in Marianna. There's 2500 FEMA trailers that are being trucked into Marianna staging."

They will stay there while officials finalize approval of sites where the trailers can go. The first delivery of FEMA temporary housing is expected to be Nov. 18, 2018.

"We got punched in the mouth, Bay County took a good hit from Hurricane Michael. But we've come a long way and one step in front of the other we're making progress every day and we'll be bigger better and stronger when this is all over," said Griffitts.

Once an application for a trailer is approved by FEMA there is a 3 to 5 day turn around before they deliver the trailer. Although, this is not a permanent fix explained Griffitts. "A FEMA trailer is only good for 18 months. This is temporary housing."

According to FEMA, survivors eligible for housing would be responsible for paying their own utilities.
