City of Springfield waives water and trash bills, plans on moving city hall

SPRINGFIELD, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - Springfield Mayor Ralph Hammond says the state of emergency throughout the city remains in affect.

Power has been restored to everyone who can accept it.

Water and sewer systems are back up and running, and schools open this week.

As far as debris goes, two companies are working on picking up debris and trash free of charge to residents as trash and water bills have been completely waived.

"We've had so much damage and we went without water so long, we're wiping the slate clean on all citizens including businesses. December first we'll go out and do an initial water reading. We think by that time we should be able to find the water meters because right now they're under rubble," Mayor Hammond said.

Residents will see their next bill in January, due February.

They can pay that at the old library on School Avenue which is where city hall will be located until it moves to it's brand new location on the corner of Transmitter Road and 11th Street in a couple years.
