Cell Phones To Go Off In First Nationwide Test Of Wireless ‘Presidential Alert’ System

For the first time ever, Americans nationwide will receive an alert on their cell phones from President Trump.

The test — scheduled for Wednesday, October 3 at 2:18 PM Eastern Time — will be the first trial run of the national ‘Presidential Alert System.”

It will allow the commander-in-chief to issue a warning about any crisis such as an incoming missile or a natural disaster.

“When those messages appear on mobile devices people should take those extremely seriously — it will have some direct impact on either life or safety,” stated Antwane Johnson, director of Integrated Public Alert and Warning System – FEMA. “If we have something that’s of national significance we can rapidly notify the American public about that event.”

Since 2012 government agencies nationwide have issued over 40,000 emergency alerts to cell phones, but those were ‘Amber’ and weather alerts targeting specific regions.

Unlike other alerts, cell phone users can not opt out of messages from the ‘Presidential Alert System’.
