Guest Dwight C
3 Chicago Teens Shot Near High School Chicago continues to be bombarded with even more violence as three high school students are shot minutes after leaving class on the city’s south side. On Monday afternoon a masked gunman in a light colored sedan reportedly opened fired into a group of students near Chatham Academy in Burnside. A 16-year-old male was shot in the shoulder and a 17-year-old male was shot in the leg. Both were transported to local hospitals in critical condition. The third victim, an 18-year-old male, was shot in the arm as well as the armpit and was transported in serious condition. Chatham Academy principal — Tony Qadir Lyons — claimed their school has never encountered a shooting before, but assured that the staff is properly trained for emergency situations. “There wasn’t a lot of chaos in terms of staff,” he explained. “We know how to respond appropriately, we train for these type of things, we go over drills for these types of things.” The incident happened about half a mile away from a second shooting that occurred nearly two hours earlier and authorities believe the two may be connected. “We’re looking into that right now to see if they’re out for some kind of retaliation or some type of similarities,” said Chicago Police of Patrols Chief Fred Waller. Investigators reportedly took two people into custody shortly after the shooting, but they have not confirmed if these individuals have been charged. The incident comes just a day after another violent weekend in Chicago, where 21 people were shot and two were killed — furthering the cycle of bloodshed that continues to plague the city.
