(NBC) - A convenience store owner in Florida has been charged with shooting a man who stole beer. The incident, captured on surveillance video, happened at 11:40 Tuesday night at a Shell gas station in Lakeland. Deputies say Rennie Defoe, Jr., 43, left the store without paying for $36 worth of beer. They say Mehedeun Hasan, 22, who owns the store with his father, ran after Defoe with a 9mm gun. Video shows Hasan approaching the suspect's vehicle, shooting at the car as it backed up to leave. Deputies say Defoe managed to drive away before crashing at an intersection. He was taken to the hospital with a gunshot wound to his left arm and chest and is listed in critical condition. Hasan was arrested and charged with shooting into an occupied vehicle and attempted second-degree murder. Hasan has no prior criminal history while Defoe has 12 prior felony charges and nine misdemeanors, and was just released from prison in June.
