Mike Peer
Large mako shark caught in waters near Panama City PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - A man caught a huge mako shark last week (not pictured in article). The shark was caught in Panama City. A research biologist tells us catching the shark this time of year is not unusual because of the water temperature. However, larger sharks are usually found farther offshore. Experts say the shark was likely following its food source when the fisherman caught it. "Most of the recreational anglers that do target sharks will do a combination of either chumming for them," John Carlson, a research biologist, said, "they get a bucket of crushed up fish and fish oils and they use that because the scent will attract the shark in closer to where they can catch them." Anglers who catch mako sharks are encouraged to tag them and then release them.
